SlideShare is a presentation tool that implements many of the Web 2.0 features and design. Users can easily, quickly, and freely upload, publish, and share power point files publicly or privately. It is a social sharing technology that lets users send and receive comments on each slide of a presentation, add tags, synch audio to slides, download original power point files, and embed slideshows into a blog or website.
Slideshare has groups or communities for users to join in order to connect with other members with mutual interests. Slideshare is a flash based technology with an interface that looks like that of a video player. Please see the following Slideshare demo:
Slideshare is ideal for academics, including individuals and organizations. Teachers, for example, can use Slideshare to upload lesson plans or lectures created in power point, and then, copy the code to embed into their course homepages or blogs. They can also utilize the Slidecast facilities for student Story Telling projects. Presenters, in general, can use SlideShare to share power point presentations or slideshows as links that can be embedded into emails to post or distribute to their audiences. Organizations, like TESOL can use Slideshare for conferences to presentations with members and non-members who could not make it to an event. The presentations can be shared before an event so that presenters can receive comments and feedback from participants prior to a conference.
